NRD: Assembly Bunker - 0001

From

Price

$49.99

Description:

This bunker (Building 232) served as the United States' primary nuclear weapon assembly facility at North River Depot until its deactivation in September 1994.

Here, plutonium pits (fissile cores), high-explosive lenses, tritium reservoirs, neutron generators, lithium deuteride secondaries, and beryllium reflectors were precision-mated with reentry vehicle bodies and warhead casings in a controlled, high-security environment.

Final assembly occurred just prior to transport via secure convoy to the Loring AFB runway, where fully armed weapons were loaded onto strategic bombers or alert aircraft. The process followed strict two-person integrity rules, with each step verified by nuclear weapons specialists under constant surveillance.
